Spring flowers and portraits

It might not seem like spring in some places, but San Francisco is having April showers and May flowers already. (The joys of living in Northern California become even more obvious once you plant a garden, even a tiny container one like the one on our balcony.)

Here are some spring flowers, and also a couple great portraits from a recent shoot for web-design client Dr Megan Parker and her wife.

Unfurling Poppy -2-

Two fresh new Datura stramonium rise up in the early spring sunshine, almost growing as you watch them...

Obviously, I’ve been having waaaay too much fun with the AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 Lens. Doesn’t the bokeh in the last one look piles of copper coins? (A small — very small! — fortune.)

The images below were shot with the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4 Classic Portrait Lens, and then I had some fun with them in Photoshop…

October Poppy & New Zazzle Store

Here’s a shot of a poppy I grew myself, in my wee balcony garden. There was a great week back in October where I did a few days shooting some food I baked, and every thing in the garden was thriving, so I was out shooting at different times of day … and I suddenly realized, “I made or grew everything I shot this week!” It was a really incredible feeling.
